FRIENDS OF CENTER HILL PARK

ABOUT

Center Hill Park is a 46-acre City of Atlanta park located in West Atlanta at 2305 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30318.  The park offers basketball courts, ball fields, a playground, a splash pad, and the Atlanta Police Department Zone 1 Precinct. Center Hill Park is becoming a catalyst for increased community engagement, sharing the mayor’s vision of creating neighborhoods where residents can work, play, and live. The park is currently over 50% heavy tree and undergrowth and is split in half by Proctor Creek.  View more photos and details at the Atlanta Area Parks website.

HISTORY

Center Hill Neighborhood Association (CHNA) was formed several years ago by a coalition of Center Hill neighbors with the goal of engaging neighbors and steering development in the community. In 2020, CHNA became aware of Park Pride and created The Friends of Center Hill Park to pump energy into increasing the access and usage of the park by both legacy and new residents in the surrounding neighborhoods. The CHNA Environmental Committee Chair & Friends of Center Hill Park makes regular reports in both neighborhood & NPU-J meetings on the progress of the park. To share this information on participating with the Friends of Center Hill Park group, send your neighbors to our webpage at www.FriendsOfCenterHillPark.org.

PAST PROJECTS

Friends of Center Hill Park received a Legacy Grant from Park Pride in the amount of $145,000 to construct a trail and bridge over the creek allowing park guests to easily move from one side of the park (Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy) to the other (Wood St NW). This project connected both halves of the park encouraging increased usage of the whole park by visitors who typically stayed on one half of the park during their visit.  The bridge also connected shared resources such as bathrooms, parking, and Atlanta Police Department Zone 1 Precinct. Also, the layout of the trail and bridge was designed so hikers, walkers, bird-watches, and joggers can walk around the ball fields on each side of the creek crossing back and forth in a “figure 8” pattern and never have to stop. Take time to visit soon!
